In case you haven't seen earlier message to discussion lists from Sue Lacey-Bryant, it is repeated here for you....have deliberately left out the team's email addresses due to spammers but if you would like Sue's details get in touch with us at firstname.lastname@example.org
A small working group has formed, with the backing of NHSIA, to develop a Primary Care Current Awareness Service building on the experience and technical infrastructure of TIN (see http://www.tin.nhs.uk/home/keeping-up-to-date
). This is one of several new NHS wide services planned to deliver benefits to users and raise the profile of libraries as part of the first stage of the development of the National Library for Health
Contributors to TIN find that by pooling their work they can realise time savings while extending the services each library can provide, benefiting from the input and expertise of colleagues within the wider network while sharing local work with a wider audience. Meanwhile, technical developments offer us fresh opportunities to extend the range of services we can offer primary care users, using RSS feeds to develop and link into a range of current awareness services - categorised by subject and by discipline, and focussed on both managerial and clinical issues facing primary care staff.
Our aim is to start small, and build gradually, taking this forward as a collaborative development with colleagues around the country. We see opportunities for multiple partners to share resources, contributing to a pool of services that can be freely used (and customised) by librarians in a number of different ways to deliver and support both current awareness and more selective dissemination of information.
Would you like to get involved? Perhaps you are already providing current awareness services, using RSS feeds, or are keen to develop new targeted services to meet the needs of primary care staff? You are invited to get in touch with me to indicate your interest (and perhaps give me some background on your service). Should you have any thoughts on taking forward this service development, or queries, by all means contact any one of the working group (listed below).
We look forward to hearing from you.
