Single Search goes live

Message from Colin Davies, Single Search Environment Project Manager....

The National Library for Health single search engine (SSE) is now live and is available at www.library.nhs.uk. This is the first phase of the National Library for Health (NLH) website and work is now beginning on phase 2.

We have had a great response to the initial acceptance testing completed by librarians for the single search environment. Further testing of user navigation and searching is scheduled for mid January and is being undertaken by an external organisation.

Phase 2 will focus on implementing recommendations made during the testing period, connecting additional resources (including locally purchased resources) and the localisation and personalisation of the NLH site. Some consultation work has taken place, led by the LKDN Informatics, and further consultation will take place.

More resources will be made available via the single search engine, but this takes time, as 'connectors' have to be built. The SSE team recognise that there may be some confusion as to which site (NeLH or NLH) to access. Managers should decide, but please be aware that resources will migrate from the NeLH site to the NLH site over the next few months and will be incorporated into the NLH single search directory, which provides direct links to individual resources.
